3D Studio Max

These are a couple renderings from my final project for 3D computer modeling in 3ds max. This is the first time I used Mental Ray and I am really pleased with how they turned out. There are a few things I would change with the actual model (such adding a bevel to all edges). The render time for each of these stills was 30 minutes to an hour. The top one was on a Low detail setting, while the others were done on Draft. I'll have to try one on maximum quality when can give up the use of my computer for a day.

Grandpa was a woodcarver

This is a toy propeller that my grandpa made for my brothers and I when we were young. He also hand carved birds (decoys and life-like). I drew it while in Art Foundation (2005). I've been thinking about him as I work on my current studio project which includes a Hospice space.

Falling Light

This is the starter project for Senior Studio I. We are tasked with designing a place to give birth and a place to die. We started with designing a lamp to help build our concept. When making my lamp I thought about the similarities between water and life:
The rectangular form of the Plexiglas represent the things in life that are unchanging. Life has a beginning and an end, the in between is what is variable and unpredictable and what we have sometimes have control over. Life is dynamic, fluid, unpredictable, and sometimes circular (or can seem to be).
The visual and auditory stimuli are calming.
Water is used in many religions. Christianity uses water in baptism, a ritual cleaning of body and soul. The act of becoming pure. Nearly every culture and religion has a myth about a Great Flood that was sent by a higher power to cleanse the earth of human wrongdoings.
Total build time: approx. 8+ hours (not counting drying time of glue).

Destruct, Construct, Repeat

Near Education City in Doha, Qatar. A VCUQ Teacher was kind enough to take me to some construction sites to take pictures. It happened to be in the middle of a (minor) dust storm which made for some pretty cool pictures. And sand in my teeth.

Bomba

These men were unloading firework tubes off a boat down by the Corniche in Doha, Qatar. I asked them what they were doing and the "supervisor" on the far left said "Bomba"
